About Thyroid

Treatment

Some common treatments for thyroid include the following:

1. Allopathic medicines:

If the thyroid hormones decrease then people can take Eltroxin tablet,  if increased can take anti-thyroid (neomercazole, inderal) tablets. Iodine 131(Radio active iodine) will reduce the Hyperthyroidism. Surgery helps in few cases. This can be proactively solved by making changes in food intake and practicing some essential exercises.

2. Yoga:

Yoga is an excellent alternative form of healing that is very suited to the needs of thyroid patients and can also be of tremendous help as a healing therapy for people with thyroid illness. Yoga is much more than exercise -- it is bringing of mind and body and spirit into balance! .There is a specific pose that is thought to be of great benefit to the thyroid. It's known as a shoulder stand, or sarvangasan.

3. Homoeo:

Homoeopathy, a natural system of healthcare, offers a better and safer option for treating thyroid condition. Homeopathy is a holistic system of treatment that makes use of only natural substances to prepare remedies. Instead of focusing on the disease, homeopathy targets the root cause of the condition and is better suited to provide a permanent cure. Homeopathic remedies are focused more on stimulating the body’s self-healing capabilities. It is for this reason that homeopathy insists on calling its preparation a remedy rather than a medicine.

4. Naturapathy:

Today, more than ever before it is important to educate yourself about the value of good nutrition and healthy eating to support your thyroid. A natural thyroid diet places an emphasis on consuming a wide variety of fresh, natural foods that supply an array of nutrients to support healthy thyroid activity.

Here are some general guidelines:

  • Up your intake of iodine-rich foods such as Japanese sea vegetables e.g. nori, wakame, kombu and arame. Thyroid hormones contain iodine making this a critical mineral for normal thyroid activity.
  • Cook your brassica vegetables for six to seven minutes. These vegetables contain ‘goitrogens’ which prevent the use of iodine. Goitrogens are found in broccoli, sweet potato, cabbage, cauliflower, turnips, brussel sprouts and mustard greens. Cooking inactivates the thyroid inhibiting effect.
  • Choose traditional soya products. In Asia, small amounts of traditional soy foods are consumed. This includes tofu, natto, miso, tempeh, and boiled soy beans (edamame), rather than the large amounts of refined and unfermented soy products that are now found in our Western supermarkets.
  • Eat selenium-rich foods such as asparagus, Brazil nuts, grains, garlic and mushrooms. Selenium assists activation of thyroid hormones.
  • Eat foods that provide a plentiful supply of zinc such as oysters and pumpkin seeds. Zinc is a necessary nutrient to assist healthy thyroid activity.
  • Avoid Trans fats or ‘plastic fats’ found in margarine, TV dinners, bakery foods, commercially prepared snack foods and deep fried food. These very unhealthy fats are very damaging to the thyroid cell membranes.

5. Ayurveda:

Ayurveda is based on the doctrine that certain substances of vegetable, animal and mineral origin have curative values. These medicinal values have been well documented by various writers and compilers of Ayurvedic literature who observed and experimented with herbs, minerals, metals, animal parts, cooked food articles, natural foods and fruits. The details of these substances are given according to their nature, effects, and curative properties.

6. Siddha:

Siddha medicine employs a variety of herbs and minerals, many of which were developed in the ancient past under advanced scientific techniques, even by today's standards. The development of medicine has been a continuous process in Asia although it has always taken a more natural approach to healing than western medicine. Siddha medicine, being one of the world’s most complex and intricate forms of medicine, is on the verge of being lost due to change, and Thanuology (study of palm leaves) may be lost altogether. Many chronic diseases, considered imcurable in western medicine, can be treated successfully with siddha medicine. Most medicines are for the most part natural and processed in  such a way as to be readily absorbed within each cell in the body, giving it proper nourishment to sustain a long and healthy life.

Healthy cell within the body can reproduce new cells that are just as healthy, thus slowing the process of aging from the inside out. Some siddha medical treatments claim that certain medicines are effective enough at this to be able to arrest aging altogether. Western medicine attempts to slow aging from the outside in with anti-wrinkle cream and skin surgery. Modern medicine could benefit from some of the hidden treausures in siddha medicine if less importance was put on having a patent for their drugs than having an actual cure.

Stimulation of VARMA points give excellent results for thyroid related problems.

7. Acupuncture:

Acupuncturists trained in traditional Chinese medicine consider thyroid problems symptomatic of deeper imbalances. These imbalances all have an energetic nature. When the thyroid gland is under- supplied with energy, it malfunctions. Commonly used Acupuncture Points Include:

  • Neck points near the thyroid gland
  • Large Intestine 4 on the hand between the thumb and forefinger
  • San Jiao 3-6 on the outside of the forearm
  • Conception Vessel 22 at the base of the throat

8. Acumassage:

The combination of acupuncture and massage creates balance on both a physical and energetic level. Acupuncture points are chosen based on your imbalances, and followed by a relaxing massage. There are different level of treatments for minutes varying like 30 min, 55  60 min , 80   90 min,120 min.

9. Reiki:

It uses a technique commonly called palm healing or hands on healing as a form of complementary theraphy and is sometimes classified as oriental medicine by some professional medical bodies. Through the use of this technique, practitioners believe that they are transferring universal energy (i.e., reiki) in the form of ki through the palms, which allows for self-healing and a state of equilibrium.Apply reiki healing to the throat chakra, which is associated with the thyroid gland. A reiki healer places her hands on the throat and collarbone. The practitioner clears energy for females by rotating her hands to the left; for males, hands are rotated to the right. A healthy aura that eminates from this region is either light blue or turquoise with silver.

10. Pranic Healing:

Pranic Healing is a highly evolved and tested system of energy medicine developed by GrandMaster Choa Kok Sui that utilizes prana to balance, harmonize and transform the body's energy processes. Prana is a Sanskrit word that means life-force. This invisible bio-energy or vital energy keeps the body alive and maintains a state of good health. In acupuncture, the Chinese refer to this subtle energy as Chi. It is also called Ruach or the Breath of Life in Hebrew.

Pranic Healing is a simple yet powerful & effective system of no-touch energy healing. It is based on the fundamental principles that the body is a self-repairing living entity that possesses the ability to heal itself and that the healing process is accelerated by increasing this life force that is readily available from the sun, air and ground to address physical & emotional imbalances. Master Choa Kok Sui says "Life Energy or prana is all around us. It is pervasive; we are actually in an ocean of Life Energy. Based on this principle, a healer can draw in Pranic Energy or Life Energy from the surroundings."

Pranic Healing  requires no drugs, gadgets, not even physical contact with the subject. Physical contact is not required because the practitioner is working on the bioplasmic or energy body and not directly on the physical body. This energy body, or aura, is the mold or blueprint that surrounds and interpenetrates the physical body. It is the energy body that absorbs life energy and distributes it throughout the physical body, to the muscles, organs, glands, etc. The reason Pranic Healing works on the energy body is that physical ailments first appear as energetic disruptions in the aura before manifesting as problems in the physical body.
